Jesus Was A Racist

As I write these words, “Christ Jesus” is trending on Twitter. It may just be a coincidence, but yesterday, Donald Trump looked up to the heavens as he proclaimed himself, “The Chosen One.” There’s a word in ancient Hebrew that translates into “chosen one” and it’s “Messiah”. The 45th President of the United States declared himself the Messiah one day before “Christ Jesus” started trending on Twitter.

Many Christians, who aren’t Trump supporters, are angry about the way evangelicals have embraced Trump. Some religious leaders in the movement have gone so far as to suggest that Donald Trump was chosen by God himself to save America and the world. In that way, he isn’t just some guy who got elected president, but a “chosen one”. A Messiah.

Except that he’s not a perfect human being. Not like the other Messiah, the now-trending “Christ Jesus”. After all, to his detractors, Trump is a horrible person; a con-man, a liar, a mysoginist, a sexual predator, and quite possibly a racist.

But not Christ Jesus.

There is no good in this world, done under the name of religion, that could not have been done by good people who hold no religious belief. Any good and moral action that has been done in religion’s name has been done in spite of religion, not because of it. Good people will, given the chance, do good. And most people are good.
